Corso di laurea in Global Law and Transnational Legal Studies (Classe L-14)

The Department of Law at the University of Turin offers students enrolled in Global Law and Transnational Legal Studies degree program the opportunity to attend online courses.

Students enrolled in Global Law and Transnational Legal Studies can include up to 120 ECTS of online courses in their study plan.

To enroll in the degree program, follow the instructions provided on the Enrolment procedure page.

The online courses are delivered through the Moodle platform, a cutting-edge e-learning system made available thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Law and the Department of Computer Science. The key features of these courses are:

  • They are equivalent in credits and curriculum to in-person courses.
  • They are taught by faculty members from the Departments, supported by tutors (scholars and/or subject matter experts).
  • They allow students to customize their study schedule according to their commitments.
  • They enable direct and immediate communication with instructors.
  • They create a learning environment that promotes interaction in the virtual space, avoiding an isolated approach to exam subjects.
  • To guide students in their studies, in addition to traditional teaching materials, they provide resources specifically designed for online learning, constantly updated to facilitate both the quality and quantity of subject comprehension.

The online courses are an additional and optional service that the Department of Law offers alongside all the educational tools available to the student community (classroom lectures, seminars, language courses, remedial courses, etc.).

For this reason, attending online courses requires the payment of an additional contribution to the Department.

The amount of the additional contribution is governed by the University Tuition and Fees Regulations (art. 6.1.3)

Each online course is assigned to an official subject professor. The development of the online teaching units is carried out directly by the professor, assisted by a subject expert tutor.

**

**

Users of online courses are organized into classes; a single course can address multiple classes.

Each class has a dedicated web space for the course activities, which also includes a discussion Forum—a virtual meeting place where students can gather weekly to get information, discuss, and debate the topics related to the individual teaching units.

Online courses use innovative software for "distance learning" delivery. This is not a static system of online publication of pages to download, read, and study, nor filmed lectures to be viewed at home. Instead, it is an interactive IT system designed for learning: the student’s primary reference is the recommended texts, and they access both support and additional study materials, specifically designed for online teaching, as well as exercises for understanding the individual topics. Students maintain constant interaction with the instructor and the tutor, who encourage optimal preparation and assess the quality and correctness of their work.

Each course is divided into online teaching units, but some in-person meetings are also scheduled. These intermediate meetings are aimed at verifying understanding of the subject matter and the units delivered online. A written test may also be proposed to allow each participant to assess the quality of their preparation, or an intermediate test may be required by the instructor to cover part of the exam syllabus.

The course structure is generally organized as follows:

- For a 9 or 12 ECTS course: at least 9 or 12 online units and 3 or 4 in-person meetings (one initial, one or two intermediate, and one final), dedicated to necessary clarifications on the subject and possibly an exemption test.
- For a 6 ECTS course: at least 5 online units and 2 or 3 in-person meetings (one initial, one final, and possibly one intermediate), dedicated to necessary clarifications on the subject.

The study pace is organized in regular intervals (usually weekly):

- The instructor publishes study materials related to the weekly teaching unit and the exercises to be completed.
- By the assigned deadline, the student studies, interacts with the tutor or class, proposes discussion topics on the Forum, completes and submits the exercises. Submissions are made in a dedicated and private space, which we can call the "online notebook," where each student always operates through a web publishing mechanism.
- The instructor publishes the exercise correction for self-assessment by the class, and simultaneously the unit for the following week.
- On each student's online notebook, the tutor corrects the submitted exercise, highlighting any errors, omissions, and additions, and, if necessary, may encourage students to reflect more deeply and study specific topics further.
- Thus, while preparing for the next teaching unit, the student has the opportunity to correct their preparation and is encouraged to deepen and address any deficiencies that emerged in previous units.

Considering the characteristics of online courses and the fast pace of the teaching units, timely and consistent completion of study and exercises is strongly recommended.

In any case, a tolerance of 1/3 of absences is allowed for the overall activities (in-person meetings and teaching units). If a registered student fails to attend the course start and subsequently does not complete exercises amounting to 1/3 of the delivered activities without contacting the instructor, the instructor has the authority to exclude the student from accessing the online course materials. Additionally, if the tolerance limit is exceeded at any point during the course, the instructor may decide to exclude the student from the "reserved" exam session, which takes place immediately after the course ends.

It is especially recommended to attend the first meeting, dedicated to the course introduction (see calendar), which includes presenting the topics to be covered and explaining the specific course modalities.

**

The course concludes with an in-person meeting reserved for the class of the "online" course, dedicated to the final exam, which may be written or oral.

Booking online courses is necessary to organize virtual classes on the Moodle platform and is mandatory for all those wishing to attend online courses offered by the Department of Law.

**READ CAREFULLY**

Booking for online courses must be completed by the Monday of the week when classes begin.

Example: if a course starts on Friday, October 6, you must book by Monday, October 2. The questionnaire can be completed only 4 times, so it is advised to enter all the courses you plan to attend for the academic year.

You should select only the courses you intend to attend in the current academic year!

Completing the questionnaire is necessary for Moodle platform access and to receive access to the online courses you wish to attend. All other deadlines and obligations related to courses (enrollment, registration, transfers, fee payments, study plan, etc.) remain valid.

Online courses require attendance at at least 2/3 of the meetings and completion of at least 2/3 of the online exercises. Therefore, if the booking request is made after 1/3 of the course has been delivered, it will no longer be possible to join the course participants.

**

**

Check that the booked courses are included in your study plan: the choice of online courses should reflect the options available in your study plan and comply with the rules for your year of enrollment.

Complete the study plan before or after the questionnaire, but remember: in the questionnaire, you should only book courses you intend to follow in the current academic year, while the study plan should include the entire educational offer of the degree program.

**Note:** If a course, although correctly booked and regularly attended, is not listed in your online record, it will not be possible to register for the exam and record the result.

**Note:** Booking a course in the study plan without having registered for it prevents course attendance.

**

**

Complete the questionnaire to book the online courses you intend to attend for the current academic year:

1. Go to www.unito.it and log in to your MyUnito area.
2. In the top bar, select "Career," then click on "Questionnaires" in the drop-down menu.
3. From the list of questionnaires, select the one titled "Prenotazione degli insegnamenti online erogati dal Dipartimento di Giurisprudenza - a.a. 202x/202x" and select "Nuova compilazione"
4. Answer the questions and, at the end, check for any errors before clicking "Conferma" If you realize you have made an error or incomplete entry, modify the pages that need correction before confirming the submission.
**Note:** You should select only the courses you intend to attend for the current academic year.

**Note:** For the question "Intendi ripetere insegnamenti già frequentati in anni accademici precedenti?" ("Do you intend to repeat courses already attended in previous academic years?"):

- Answer "No" if you are attending all the courses you have chosen for this academic year for the first time.
- Answer "Yes" only if you want to repeat one or more online courses that you have previously attended in past academic years, and indicate only the repeated courses.

For further clarification, you can contact support by sending a ticket to the help desk, selecting "ONLINE COURSES - Enrollment in Online Courses."

To know the start times of the classes, refer to the calendar page. No confirmation communications will be sent before the start of individual courses.
